Make plans to attend Livestock Exporting 101, Feb. 14
Receive the tools needed to market animals abroad

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – The Livestock Exporters Association (LEA) will hold the “Livestock Exporting 101” seminar from 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 14, in St. Charles, Mo., in conjunction with the United States Livestock Genetics Export (USLGE) annual meeting.

Experienced exporters, LEA members and industry affiliates interested in marketing livestock abroad can benefit from the day-long, in-depth discussion of the export process. The seminar’s program will encompass the entire procedure, from rules and regulations to banking and marketing. Federal, state and port representatives from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Animal Plant Health Inspection Services and Veterinary Services (USDA APHIS VS) will discuss their roles and give an overview of current rules, regulations and negotiations with foreign governments. Other experts will cover shipping live animals on land, through the air and over water, banking and receiving payments from international clients, insuring shipments and marketing animal genetics internationally.

“The seminar will show both the amount of planning and the people needed to make a successful shipment, as well as the network you need in place to properly plan your shipment,” LEA President Tony Clayton said.

In addition to the program, attendees can network with numerous vendors on display offering a wide range of services related to the exporting process.

Clayton encourages everyone with an interest in marketing livestock, including seedstock producers and breeders, veterinarians and freight providers, to attend because 2011 was an unprecedented year for live animal exports and the future continues to look bright.
“With the growing population and demand for protein around the world, livestock exports will only continue to grow,” Clayton said.

Advanced registration is available on the LEA website beginning Dec.1. The cost of the seminar is $150 for LEA members and $200 for nonmembers. The registration fee includes all meals for the day. For more information regarding LEA and marketing livestock abroad or to register for the seminar visit the LEA website (www.livestock exporters-usa.com).
